Aircel purchased 3G licenses for 13 circles last year. Now Aircel launched its 3G services in Chennai for its postpaid and prepaid customers. Aircel also unveiled “IDEOS” that runs on Android and 3G dongle. It has also unveiled plans for investments of Rs 23,000 crores over the next 3-4 years.
Free trial to tryout 3G
- SMS “TRY” to 121 to activate free trial (Valid from 22nd – 27th February 2011)
- 250MB data and 50 minutes of video calling is free. After that 3p/10KB for data and 5p/sec for video call would be charged.
- Free pocket video service after activating 3G by dialing 56666 to download videos for free for period of 6 days.

These plans have validity of one month. There is also high-speed plan for Rs 92 that offers 100 MB of data.
During the launch Aircel Chief Operating Officer Gurdeep Singh said
3G will collapse all barriers. It will revolutionise entertainment since it is a highly interactive medium and bandwidth will not be a constraint. Internet penetration in India stood at 7% and the launch of 3G service would help boost it further. The social networking thread changes every 100 kms of the country and it’s an endeavour for us to have an association with Infosys to develop an application store to offer various services.
As per information available, Aircel will launch their 3G service in other circles where they have purchased license by mid march and there are also talks between other operators to launch in remaining circles.
