Body & Display

Build quality is as similar to the Honor 8 Pro and resembles a lot with the antenna bands running on the top and bottom. Thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio display has been made taller with 5.93 inches LTPS IPS LCD display featuring 2160 x 1080 resolution. The display is sharp, crisp, vibrant. Colors are true to nature and viewing angles are just ok. The display also supports a pixel density of 407 ppi. Type C port which is normally seen these days are missing and speaker vents along with the 3.5 mm audio jack lies on the top. At the back you get the dual camera setup having LED flash, fingerprint sensor, and Honor logo. On the front, you have the camera, couple of sensors and the earpiece. Bottom chin on the front has got the Honor branding as well. Over to the right, you have the power on/off button along with the volume rockers and you have the hybrid SIM tray to the left. Thickness is around 7.6 mm with a combined weight of 165 grams which indeed doesn’t make the handset bulkier in hands. Matt black version is very prone to fingerprints and the aluminum unibody design is just perfect and gives a decent premium look.

Inside the box, you get a standard micro USB cable and wall charger having 5 volts and 2-ampere power

Operating System

You get EMUI 5.1 on top of Android 7.0 which is indeed a disappointment as most of the phones launching these days are having Android Oreo out of the box. Though it will be updated to Android Oreo soon which as of now is uncertain. The interface is fluid, snappy and very responsive and comes with a bunch of preloaded applications out of which some are easy to get uninstalled if needed. Customization is possible with themes; icon packs and a hell lot of display modes are available. Apart from the same you also get dual app functionality which kinds of replicate an app to be used with to user ID’s at the same time, kind of a parallel app functionality.

Processor & Memory

Inside the phone is the company’s proprietary Hi-Silicon Kirin 659 chipset on an Octa-Core CPU having four cores running on 2.36 GHz and another four running on 1.7 GHz coupled with Mali T830 MP2 GPU. It comes with three storage options having 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB along with 4 GB of RAM. Which version would be launched in India is uncertain but in most cases, it might be the 64 GB and 128 GB versions to see daylight. As already mentioned the device is snappy and very responsive. Multitasking is an ease and heavy gaming though drains you out of power, heating of the device isn’t something that bothers. Minute heating is experienced on the back but it’s mostly while GPS is functioning or some GPU dedicated gaming or processing is going on. Apps and games to keep themselves safe in the background and can be resumed even if revoking the app from hibernation. Overall the performance didn’t disappoint and was pretty decent.

Camera

Now here the dual camera setup is the second highlight of the phone after the overwhelming display in the front. On the back, you get 16 MP + 2 MP sensors along with LED flash which does take some decent pictures outside. The camera app, on the other hand, contains lots of customizations and photo modes which can be tweaked as per your needs. Portrait wide angle mode is also available which blurs out the background providing a bokeh effect. A pro mode is also included which does let you tweak the aperture, ISO, shutter speed and lightning as per your desires and needs. The camera does shoot 1080p videos at 60 fps from the primary 16 MP rear shooter.

The front camera, on the other hand, is an 8 MP camera having wide angle lens for those amazing selfies. The front camera also features beauty modes for selfies and uses the display as the flash as and when needed.

Connectivity & Other Features

Features here include WLAN, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, Radio, USB 2.0 and 3.5 mm audio jack which also has got dedicated DTS audio. Active noise cancellation is also present along via dedicated mic. The fingerprint sensor is rear mounted and accelerometer, proximity, and compass sensors are also present on board. The battery on the Honor 7X is a 3340 mAh battery which would definitely go a full day on medium and normal usage. As of now, fast charging support isn’t clear whether the device has that on board or not.
