How to Manually Upgrade your HTC Wildfire to Froyo in India

Earlier, on 23rd of this month, HTC rolled out Android 2.2 – Froyo OS for Wildfire users in India but as seen in the comments of this post, many wildfire users are still facing problems to update their handset to Froyo.

Here in this post, we will mention few steps following which, you might be able to pull the Froyo upgrade on your phone manually.

Do check out if any of these steps work out for you:

  • You should automatically get a ‘software update’ notification on your phone. If you haven’t seen any such notification on your WF yet, then try pulling it manually from Settings –> About phone –> System software update and check the ‘Schedule check’ button so that your phone can automatically keep checking for an update and notify you about Froyo update in a few hours’ time.
  • In our case, the phone didn’t detect software update while checking via Wifi but we could easily see update notification while we checked for it manually via mobile data plan. So we recommend you to check both ways.
  • As per HTC India customer care, if you still don’t get an update, manually set your handset date to 23rd December 2010 and it should pull the Froyo update notification for your handset in the next 24 hours.

If you still face problem updating your wildfire with Froyo, you can call up HTC India toll-free number at 1800-1033-566 between 9.30 Am and 5.30 PM Monday to Saturday.

Please do not forget to comment about what method worked for you as this could be helpful for other WF users in India.

Update:

#1 – As Ajak pointed out on the comment section, “If you have firmware version 1.14.xxx, you will not get the update as of now. Only phones with firmware version 1.25.xxx are receiving updates. If you have firmware 1.14, Go to the nearest HTC service center and request them to update your firmware to 1.25.xxx and then check for the software update and you will receive the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update.”

Thaks Ajak for the info. 🙂

As mentioned in the post above, i performed every steps, still i could not see the update notification on both(Wifi and Mobile Data Plan) when updating manually. As far as the automatic update notification is concerned i don’t think we will be getting it before 15th January 2011.

I am in the UK and bought WF last week. I got automatic upgrade 2 days back and completed it as well.

One option to upgrade manually is to click the ‘Check Now’ button in
Settings –> About phone –> System software update

By clicking Check now, you are forcing it to search for update and hopfully it should pull through the update.

As per my last comment, the steps didn’t worked out for me and I’m not sure whether it will work for others or not.

So if anyone trying out the steps mentioned in my last comment and nothing happens or anything goes wrong, then I’m not responsible for it.

  9. Ajak Reply

The steps that HTC support mentions are not working for Wildfire with software 1.14.xxxx. HTC support is blindly following screen instructions. It is kinda like “hold the phone towards east and hold it high up in the air and jump and you may receive the update”. Please check your firmware version, if it is 1.14.xxx, you need to have it first updated to 1.25.xxx.

  10. Srivathsa Reply

@Deepak – Your post only says about checking the automatic option to look for any updates, but I was saying about a button called ‘Check now’ available in that screen. This is nothing to with the automatic check box.

Click that button to force it to check for updates.

  11. Vishal Reply

@Srivathsa – the update problem for HTC wildfire is in INDIA and not in UK.

you are saying about the ‘check now’ button, well i tried this also still it is not able to pull the update.

I checked with HTC care center, Bangalore. The guy said that not everybody is able to pull Froyo for wildfire and, though it is rolled out globally, it is still depending upon the handset (may be the serial number or watever) whether the set is able to pull the update or not. He asked me to keep checking. And also that via PC, it is not possible to update the ROM and only possible way is by air.

I got my wildfire from Australia and it shows firmware version as 2.1-update1. Anyone know how can I get the froyo update?

    Thanx

  21. Bharat Reply

To get Android 2.2 you need to update the software number to 1.25

to update the software number download the below exe
    [ RUU_Buzz_hTC_Asia_India_1.25.720.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_142213_signed.exe] from http://www.mediafire.com/?g803gkqc3bs41jp

After downloading, just connect ur phone with USB cable to ur PC in USB charging mode & double click the downloaded .exe file to run setup. Follow the Readme file in that setup or onscreen instructions properly & start installation.

connect to internet using wifi or gprs
then goto Menu->settings->About phone->System Software Updates & Click CHECK NOW..

    you will get the update.

If you are on the older Wildfire firmware, you can upgrade your’s via the info. posted by Bharat and it’ll probably help you get Froyo sooner on your phone.

    Hi,

How is the battery performance for you all. For my HTC Wildfire it was giving decent backup of around 1.5-2 days with low usage. But after i upgraded to Android 2.2 (FROYO) on 29th Dec, the battery has got really bad. It drains out within 10 hours even if the phone is not used at all. I even tried doing a factory reset to remove all applications and then put it on stand by for full day but still it didn’t last for even 12 hrs.

They are claiming a 120hrs Standby time. But it not giving even 10% of that.

I am sure that installing 2.2 has affected battery life but it too bad incase u forget to carry the chager or you are travelling alot.

Exactly the same problem here! Though I am getting run time with 2G sim, my BSNL 3G sim is simply draining the whole battery in 10 hrs. Its not feasible to charge it all the time

        @Mohit & Gaurav:
This problem seems unusual. Few of the WF we’ve updated gives the same battery backup as it used to with earlier version.

I experimented too.. Using the Vodafone 2G connections its running perfectly fine but when i put in my BSNL 3 G sim its draining out all battery within few hrs even if the handset is not at all used (just kept switched on and not even used for messaging or phone calls)

            Hi,

I also have the same issue with BSNL 3G sim. For me this issue is visible before upgrade and issue still there even after the upgrade. If some body got clue, please let me know the solution.

Hi Finaly i have froyo on my Wildfire @ kerala.

Guys u need to get the seriel number changed to 1.25 to get the update.

Ive visited HTC showroom @ Trivandrum and changed it . today after noon i got the update while checking for new updates now.. my wildfire is Licking froyo ll the way.. thanks HTC….

  25. Vishal Mittal Reply

As mentioned in the post, about the froyo update, the software number has to be update from 1.14.xxxx to 1.25.xxxx.

For that who are having the problem to update to froyo, pl go to nearest HTC Service center and from there you can change the software version of your wildfire from 1.14.xxxx to 1.25.xxxx

After updating the software number to 1.25.xxxx you can check for the froyo update and this time it will be able to pull the update from the server and will install itself and one important thing when updating to froyo the battery level should be more than 50% or at 50%, then only you will be able to download the update and install.

Thank you all for your help.

i have updated my wildfire to froyo(2.2) and its running good and it is faster than the eclair(2.1)

Once again, thank for the help.

I bought my Wildfire from a Singapore based ebay seller, and I’ve not yet received the froyo update after trying the aforementioned methods. Frustated, I took my phone to the local HTC service centre, but he denied me service saying they donot service phones which aren’t purchased in India.

But he did tell me, after checking the serial number on my phone, that it has a German ROM. Even tried contacting HTC DE without any reply.

Now I’m considering manually flashing my device. But I’m confused which ROM from http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz should I flash my phone with.

Also, I see some RUU and OTA builds, what are these and what is the difference?

Is there any harm in flashing my phone with these ROMs? Like I read somewhere that you loose the ability to root. Can somebody comment on this?

    Appreciate all the help. Thanks.

For my HTC Wildfire the battery backup used to be 2 days (Normal Usage). But after upgarding the OS to Android 2.2 (FROYO), the battery backup has come down to 1/2 a day (10-12 hrs). This is happening even if the phone is not used. As suggested by HTC Call Centre, I did factory reset also. Still the problem persists.

As you can see in the comments above, this problem is faced by many other users too. May be 2.2 Froyo needs more resource thus the decreased battery performance.

    Hi Swapnil
I bought my HTC wildfire 1 month back. Also updated froyo on it. But i am not facing such issues, which you have mentioned nor my friends those who are using HTC models. As far as I know, HTC is very good in technology. And about battery, earlier battery backup was 2 days, after updating froyo it came down to 1.5 Day. But still it is okay. I will be online every time, I think you need to disable of few things like Bluetooth, wifi and GPS if it is activated unknowingly. Whenever you need you can activate it immediately. If you still face or facing the same things, then better you contact HTC service centre.

Also, how to enable the Market again? becasue, it is not accessible. ofcourse i enable wifi and GPS(if required) when i want to access Market. but it is giving me error.. and not loading the Market site..

      thanks

  37. Ganesh Reply

    Hi Swapnil
If your mobile connected to Internet and all required setting is enabled then it should work properly. If you are using internet via wi fi modem then only you need to enable wi fi. GPS is only for locating yourself in the Google MAP. 3G is quite expensive for now. that is why I am using 2G network of Tata docomo, Rs 98 plan with 6GB usage. This is more than enough for mobile. We have Edge in our mobile, so speed will be up to 2.7G. Just check all those things. If you still facing issues to access market then Deepak is there to guide us.

There are battery issues mentioned all above, HTC wildfire is giving me less battery backup than before, but its still manageable, there’s a loads of Background apps in the new froyo…i just kill all unnecessary apps….now battey backup is good to 1.5 day with normal usage

I also noticed battery drain problem after upgrading my Wildfire to froyo. After couple of visits to the service centre and some debug myself, I have narrowed it down to the BSNL sim card (tried Airtel sim and it works perfectly). Not sure how the background apps are related to this. BTW, which background apps did you guys kill.
