Meizu launched its 16S, which is apparently a flagship. It not only rocks the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC but also comes with a larger Super AMOLED display. It also posses a unique design by the use of COF bonding technique having large radius corners. The Meizu 16S is scheduled to debut on April 28th.
Body & Display
The 16S weighs 165 grams in total having 7.6 mm thickness. It comes with very fewer bezels making it a perfect bezel-less designed smartphone. Display on the phone is a 6.2-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen with baked in display fingerprint sensor. The display resolution counts 1080 x 2232 pixels which produce 400 PPI as pixel density. Meizu has partnered with Samsung to bring an amazing display which would minimize the harmful effects on the user’s eye. The company claims its new flagship display manages to filter out 33% of harmful blue light and also supports DC dimming for reduced eye strain.
Operating System
The flagship would feature Flyme 7.3 OS baked over Android 9.0 Pie. The user experience on the phone would be pretty smooth and faster. Older devices are also expected to get the same software features via OTA.
Processor & Memory
The processor on the Meizu 16S is the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC having Octa Core CPU coupled with Adreno 640 GPU. There is a total of 8 cores clocked at different speeds to provide faster processing on the phone while multitasking and gaming. Dedicated memory card slot is missing but you get 128/256 GB internals with 6 or 8GB DDR4X RAM. Storage would not be an issue here for people seeking those extra storage options through dedicated memory slot.
Camera
No option in 2019 is complete without a camera module. Where other flagships are rocking triple and quad camera setups, Meizu 16S, on the other hand, would come with a dual camera setup with a main 48MP sensor having f/1.7 aperture. It also features OIS Sony sensor with Quad Bayer structure. The secondary rear camera is a 20 MP shooter with f/2.6 wide sensor. The camera on the back uses a special sort of night mode that can combine up to 8 pictures to get an improved low light photography experience.
Battery
The power head of this flagship comes with a 3600 mAh battery which goes from 0 to 60 % in just 30 minutes. Thanks to its 24W charger. The software also features some AI optimizations that can keep the phone up to 6 hours during gaming and up to 14 hours during video streaming. Meizu also introduced a hyper-gaming mode which enables smoother graphics performance while making it a less power consuming device.
Connectivity Features
It includes dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB type c. The fingerprint sensor is built into the display coupled with accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass.
Pricing & Other
The 16S is expected to ship in Carbon black, Pearl White and phantom blue colors to choose from. 6GB+128GB internal to cost CNY 3198 which is approximately ($475) whereas the 8GB+256GB version to cost CNY 3498 which is approximately ($520). Meizu 16S shall also have a top end version which will be shipped with 8GB+256GB internals for CNY 3998 approximately ($595).
