Symbian Platform to get UI overhaul within this year

Nokia product manager of Netherlands confirms that Symbian OS to get new UI within this year. After Nokia joined hands with Microsoft, there were speculations about what will happen to Symbian. Last month Nokia confirmed that they will invest to improve Symbian devices and are planning to sell another 150 million devices.

Nokia Product Manger “Marc Driessen” at Nokia Benelux confirmed that there will be two updates for Symbian this year. A slight variation, would be released around the summer for the N8 and E7.

  • New icons for the menu with easily accessible features.
  • New navigation bar that includes home button, Search and settings.
  • New flexible widgets that can easily shift to multiple home screens.
  • Pull down menu for background function like Android.

Symbian^3 devices to get new UI soon, update for Symbian S60 5th and 3rd edition phones would  be announced later this year.
