The official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is going to be available for a wide range of Samsung devices from mid-May. The phones which will receive this update include the Samsung Galaxy S, Ace, Fit, Gio, Mini/Pop and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. All these phones and the tab currently run on Android 2.2 Froyo.
A few of these phones such as Galaxy Ace/Fit/Gio/Pop were launched in India just last month.
The upgrade to Android 2.3 will start with Galaxy S in the UK and Nordic countries from mid-May, and then be gradually rolled out to other European markets, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa and rest of the world.
Features of Gingerbread over Froyo:
- Faster Performance: The CPU consumption rate for Multimedia content will be much lower and it will also support better 3D graphics thereby making mobile gaming much more enjoyable.
- Better User Interface: Improve usability through faster access and improved copy-and-paste functionality.
The update will be available through Samsung Kies software from the computer.
Once this update is available in India, even entry-level phones like Samsung Galaxy Pop and Fit will also be having Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
[Editor’s note: Because of some personal problems, we could not keep the blog updated for about a month. Now onwards, you can expect some Mobile ‘Gyaan’ on a daily basis.]
