How to Enable Developers Option on any Android Smartphone

Android has evolved as a stable operating system over the years now. Majority of the flagships are now having Android Oreo 8.0 and Android Pie 9.0 out of the box. Android is an easy OS for people to bet on. It also comes with tonnes of tweaks which are not enabled by default. Such a setting is called “Developers Mode” which needs to be enabled before use.

What is Developers Option?

Developers option provides user to simulate app stresses and enable debugging options. It allows you to enable debugging over USB, capture bug reports on to your Android device, and show CPU usage on the screen to measure the impact of your software.

  1. It is widely used to root your device and install other operating systems if required.
  2. You can enable or disable animations and also speed up high-end games on low-end devices.
  3. It also serves you with bug reports for your device.
  4. You can also view your devices RAM memory usage in details with accordance to each app installed.
  5. Advanced reboot menu can also be enabled through the developer’s option which provides options to boot into recovery, bootloader from the start menu.
  6. You can also limit background processes if your device starts acting weird.
  7. If your phone uses split-screen functionality then you can force apps to resize themselves when required.
  8. When running out of space you can force the apps to install on external memory.
  9. Default USB configurations can also be changed using this mode. USB configurations include File transfer, USB tethering, MIDI, PTP, and No data transfer. You can set anyone to act as and when a USB is connected to your device.
  10. You can also enable ringtones through Bluetooth paired devices. By default, you can only hear a generic tone when you get calls. By enabling this you can hear your default ringtone through Bluetooth connected devices such as earphones, headphone or speakers. 

How to Enable Developers Option?

Please note the article is being shown on our OnePlus device, the locations and settings may be different on your phone.

Step 1. Go to your phone settings.

Step 2. Scroll down to find About Phone.

Step 3. On the About Phone panel scroll down to find “Build number”.

Step 4. Hit Build number 5, 6 or 7 times (as per your device). At this stage, you might be asked to enter your security key, password or pattern.

Step 5. You will not be notified for Developers mode being enabled.

Step 6. Hit the back button and scroll down to see the Developers Option.

If you want, you can disable developers option by clicking on Developers option and just toggle the button off.
