Today, we have a probable launch date. An unofficial BlackBerry Twitter account, @bbworldwid tweeted that BBM will be coming to Android and iOS on June 27, 2013. The tweet shows a picture of BBM splash screen app on an iPhone.

The Android app will run on devices with Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or above and iOS app will run on iOS 6 or above. Initially, users would be able to use multi-person chats, as well as have the ability to share photos and voice notes, and engage in BBM Groups, which allows BBM customers to create groups of up to 30 people. The company plans to add some of the new BBM features such as Voice and video calls, Screenshare, and Channels through future updates.

BBM on Android and the iPhone would be free to download. The company is entering the cross-messaging platform race quite late with rivals apps like WhatsApp, WeChat and Google Hangouts already ruling on all platforms. We’ll have to wait and see how it stacks up against the competitors.
