Skype is now Officially available for Symbian users

How do you converse with people far away from you ? You obviously must be using Skype, since it is free and the clarity is very good. Till yesterday, Skype was however, available only on your PC or laptop, but now Nokia and Skype have joined together to offer Skype to more than 200 million Symbian users globally. This application is usable in Mobile Networks such as GPRS/EDGE/3G and over Wi-Fi also.

Skype users can now make Skype calls, from their Symbian phones, free Skype to Skype calls to any Skype user anywhere in the world. The user can also do Instant Messaging or Chat with another person and even share files. There is even a facility to make low cost International calls/ SMS via Skype Out.

Russ Shaw, General Manager, Mobile at Skype said,

With Skype for Nokia Smartphone’s, more than 200 million Smartphone users worldwide** will be able to take the Skype features they love with them on the move. Alongside Skype’s relationships with operators and handset manufacturers worldwide, making Skype available direct to consumers will help millions of users keep in contact with the people that are important to them without worrying about the cost, distance or whether they are away from a computer.

We’re seeing around 1.5 million downloads a day on Ovi Store now and believe that the Skype client for Nokia Smartphone’s will have wide appeal to Symbian users.

  2. Nokia 5530
  3. Nokia X6
  4. Nokia N97 and N97 Mini

Here are a few non-touch screen phones which can be used for Skype for Symbian application :

  1. Nokia E72,E71,E90,E63,E66,E51
  2. Nokia N96,N95,N85,N82,N81,N79,N78
  3. Nokia 5320
  4. Nokia 6220 classic
  5. Nokia 6210 Navigator

You can open up Ovi store on your Nokia phone to download this free application or just go to skype.com/m from your compatible cell phone and download the app.

So, now more people will want to go in for a Nokia Symbian Device which is offering additional cool features obviously other handset makers such as Samsung and Sony Ericsson will have some catching up to do after this mega offer from Nokia.
