Security Concerns Raised by DoT Regarding 3G Facilities Provided by Private operators

3G services from network operators such as Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communication may be stopped for some time by the department of Telecommunications as these operators do not fully seem to have complied with the rules and regulations. These operators may have to re-launch their services after adhering to the security norms prescribed by the government.

The Department of Telecommunications has argued that they need full permission to intercept the 3G video calls. However, during demonstration, the department found that video calls beyond eight minutes couldn’t be intercepted. These operators have however pointed out that these security measures are not applicable to state-owned MTNL and BSNL, which thereby looks unfavorable to them.

3g concerns in india

Only recently, Reliance and Tata Docomo have launched 3G services within the circles in which they have obtained the license. So lets hope these security concerns do not further delay the implementation of 3G services from other providers.

@Sitakanta: It means that the operators are allowing interception only up to 8 mins for video calls whereas the department wants full control with no time restriction.
